Rutgers linguists made a strong showing at the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium and the Conference on the Acquisition of Spanish and Portuguese as First and Second Languages (HLS 2009) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Aaron Braver, Jimmy Bruno, José Camacho, Liliana Sánchez, and Tom Stephens from the Rutgers departments of Linguistics and Spanish and Portuguese all presented at the conference (see this post for details of their talks).

In addition to presenting and enjoying the local flavor, our linguists witnessed the explosion and ongoing fire at an oil refinery near the hotel at which the conference was held.  All of our linguists returned unharmed.
