All about MACSIM 4

Over 100 participants from different universities gathered at Rutgers on October 17 – 18 to take part in the 4th Mid-Atlantic Colloquium of Studies in Meaning (MACSIM 4).

DSC_6702The first day featured a Roundtable event Approaches to Semantic Research with a focus on definiteness, plurality, and number. The invited speakers Lucas Champollion, Kathryn Davidson, and our own Veneeta Dayal shared with us how they came up with an exciting research project.

The main colloquium took place on the second day. It started with an invited talk by Anna Papafragou on events in language and cognition, followed by two poster sessions, and eight talks by graduate students from different universities. The student talks included a variety of topics dealing with important semantic issues in spoken language, child language, and sign language.

Rutgers was very well-represented at MACSIM 4 with a wonderful talk by Mingming Liu and three great posters by Sarah Hansen, Billy Xu, and Vandana Bajaj.

The two-day conference ended with a buffet dinner/party.

We thank Kristen Syrett, Veneeta Dayal, Simon Charlow, and other student volunteers who organized this wonderful event at Rutgers.
