As the chair of the Linguistics Department, I would like to welcome you to Rutgers University, and to the Linguistics Department! I hope that all of you are getting settled here in central New Jersey. If you have any questions or difficulties, please feel free to ask for assistance. For basic administrative matters, our *new* dept. administrator, Marilyn Reyes, is usually the best person to ask first. If you are a new faculty member, the next person to consult is the department chair (that would be me). If you are a new graduate student, the next person to consult is the graduate program director, Prof. Jane Grimshaw. If you are a visiting scholar, the next person to consult is probably your faculty sponsor. We are all looking forward to another productive and stimulating academic year.
Graduate Program Director’s Message
Welcome to 2015-16. There are 29 students altogether in the program, probably the largest group ever. Fortunately the administration of the graduate program is now in the supremely competent hands of Marilyn Reyes.
We are joined this year by an entering class of four: Ang, Eileen, Hazel and Lydia. We wish them every success in the program and look forward to their first year here.
Last year’s achievements included excellent dissertations and qualifying papers, as well as many other research projects, conference presentations and publications. The research done by graduate students was supported by the Mellon Foundation, the Graduate School, the TA/GA fund, the Department, and contributions by our faculty.
The outstanding work of Nick Danis as last year’s president of the LGSA, with Ümit Atlamaz as VP, resulted not only in curricular reform, but in the crowning glory of the year, now on display in Room 108. (Thanks, Bruce.) Feel free to turn it on and off… respectfully.
